Sunnie Sidhu is a freelance Director, Writer, Casting Director, and Actress based in London. A naturally creative storyteller, she fully understands any brief she’s given and has the ability to generate fresh ideas from the ground up. Her diverse skills and experiences, coupled with her passion for delivering the best possible results for each project, make her a valuable asset to any team.
Director & Writer
After completing drama school, Sunnie wrote, starred in, directed, and produced a comedy web series titled Camden Calling, centred around a group of friends who were always unemployed. She submitted it to Hat Trick Productions, who saw potential in her work, leading to Sunnie creating and developing both drama and comedy series for them, including 360, Dead Vintage, and Hey Kid. Sunnie then went on to create and develop Native, an international police and immigration drama series, in collaboration with Unstoppable Films and All3Media.
Her further accomplishments include being a finalist at the Soho Script House 2019, with judges such as Barry Jenkins and Anurag Kashyap, and being shortlisted as a screenwriter for Triforce/Amazon Studios in 2019, under Georgia Brown, Director of European Originals at Amazon Studios.
The Runner
Eastenders
Recognising that development can be a lengthy process, Sunnie naturally transitioned into directing to showcase her storytelling abilities. She wrote, directed, and produced her short film The Runner, which tells the story of a young refugee runner. Her achievements with The Runner include nominations for Best Narrative and Best Editing at the Global Impact Film Festival in Washington 2020. The film was also selected for the Paladino d'Oro Sport Film Festival in Italy in 2019 and has secured US and European distribution deals with Shorts International. It’s available on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, and Vimeo On Demand.
Encouraged by the positive feedback from broadcasters after submitting The Runner, Sunnie was selected to train as a multi-camera director at ITV and the BBC, on Doctors, EastEnders, and Coronation Street. She later went on to direct EastEnders, Doctors, and Malory Towers, which received six Emmy nominations in 2025, including for Best Family Viewing/Children’s TV Show.

While at drama school, Sunnie worked as a casting scout to help pay for fees. She quickly realised she had a knack for it and continued in the field after graduating in 2008. Her first independent role as a Casting Director was for the Stereophonic’s music video Lucky Star, where she single-handedly street cast 100 South Asian members of the public in just two days!
Actress
As an actress, Sunnie has been described as a natural raw talent. Despite having no prior drama training, she auditioned for and earned a place at the renowned Drama Centre London, also known as ‘trauma centre’. Specialising in screen acting. The school combined the Stanislavski, Rudolf Laban, and Carl Jung methods to create ‘movement psychology’ for character analysis and development of characters. It was regarded as the first method-based drama school in the UK.
Notable alumni include Tom Hardy, Paul Bettany, Gwendoline Christie, Anne-Marie Duff and Michael Fassbender.
